With UT Athletic Director Mike Hamilton serving as United Way of Greater Knoxville campaign chair, this year’s campaign has a definite “Volunteer” flair. UT coaches Pat Summitt, Bruce Pearl and Derek Dooley were on hand when the campaign kicked off at Neyland Stadium, and coaches Pearl and Summitt pumped gas for the Pilot Celebrity Pumpers United Way fundraising event. Women's Athletic Director Joan Cronan, Mike Hamilton, and Bob Kesling from the Vol Network were also celebrity pumpers.
It takes a lot of volunteers to run a successful campaign, particularly in today’s economic climate. KCDC is proud to be one of those volunteers. We have a long history of working hard to support United Way, and this year is no different.
Working under the leadership of KCDC campaign chair Bo Pierce and committee members Rhonda Harris, Bill Clanton, Teresa Lawson and Michael Hodges, we are striving to meet a fundraising goal of $10,500.
Our 2010 campaign includes a football board that awards eight hours comp time at each quarter; dress down days, raffles and employee pledges. The campaign will conclude with our always popular Chili Cook-Off, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 29. The cook-off is a lot of fun. In addition to vying for the honor of cooking up the best pot of chili, teams prepare themed booths and dress in costumes to match the theme. It’s a great time of teambuilding and a good way to raise money for a great cause.
I’m glad that KCDC is able to have a lot of fun while raising dollars for this organization that devotes itself to improving lives and building a better community.
