KCDC is governed by a seven-member Board of Commissioners, all appointed by the mayor of the city of Knoxville. Our Board does a fantastic job, and I appreciate their leadership.

We held officer elections at our most recent board meeting; and, as always, we have some topnotch people at the helm.

Juanita Cannon, a retired educator and principal with more than 40 years experience with Knox County Schools, was elected chairman. She replaces Craig Griffith, public relations manager for Mercy Health Partners. Craig has been a KCDC board member since 2003, and we are fortunate that he will remain on our board.

Culver Schmid, an attorney and shareholder of Long, Ragsdale & Waters, P.C., was elected vice chair. David Hutchins, president of Hutchins Associates architectural firm, was elected treasurer, and I was elected secretary.

Our other commissioners are Ellen Adcock, Fr. Ragan Schriver and resident commissioner Norman Watkins.

Our board includes a wide cross-section of Knoxvillians, and I appreciate the balance that their backgrounds bring to the decision making process.
