Making a Mark at Market Square

KCDC has been very involved in the redevelopment of Market Square, and I am quite pleased to see how it has been transformed into a vibrant, enjoyable gathering place for the Knoxville community. With the opening of 4 Market Square, Knoxville’s downtown has even more to offer. The 4 Market Square Café is a casual coffeehouse restaurant with excellent fare, and its adjacent Square Room is a 300-seat acoustically designed auditorium that hosts live music, lectures and Sunday church services.

Behind the scenes, the enterprise is conducting a redevelopment of its own. Recently, its first class of fellows graduated from a 10-month program aimed at training the next generation of Christian leaders for living out their faith on the job and in their everyday lives.

As these graduates go out and serve our community, we all benefit from the investment made in them.

The next class of 12 begins in August, and executive director Rick Kuhlman says that they’re always looking for future fellows and businesses to offer paid internships for those participants.

Kuhlman says that their three areas of focus are hospitality, community and leadership. It looks like they’re doing well on all three fronts.

If you’re interested in being a fellow or hiring one for an internship, Rick invites you to contact him (865-250-5479; rick@4marketsquare.com).

KCDC’s mission is to improve and transform neighborhoods and communities by providing quality affordable housing, advancing development initiatives and fostering self-sufficiency. For more information, call (865) 403-1100 or visit http://www.kcdc.org.
