We will use the $400,000 toward an extensive, $900,000 renovation project at Valley Oaks Apartments in North Knoxville. Beginning in September 2009, we’ll transform these apartments by making improvements inside and out.

We plan to replace roofs, floor coverings, lighting, appliances, kitchen cabinets and countertops, sinks and vanities, smoke detectors, and more. The facelift will also include interior painting, repair of vinyl siding, water heaters and electrical systems.

In today’s economy, more families than ever are struggling just to keep a roof over their heads. That’s why we’re thrilled to have this opportunity to make some tremendous improvements to 48 affordable, two-bedroom apartments and improve the quality of life for the families living in them.

I hear a lot of good things from residents in our other recently renovated neighborhoods, such as Lonsdale and Christenberry Heights. I look forward to hearing more good news from our Valley Oaks residents.

KCDC’s mission is to improve and transform neighborhoods and communities by providing quality affordable housing, advancing development initiatives and fostering self-sufficiency. For more information, call (865) 403-1100 or visit http://www.kcdc.org.
