Mobile Meals: Serving up food and fellowship

Mobile Meals is an excellent program operated through the CAC Office on Aging. It provides lunch meals, five days a week and holidays, to Knoxville and Knox County citizens who are at least 60 years old, cannot cook for themselves and have no one to prepare meals for them. Mobile Meals serves nearly 1,000 seniors a day. Many of those seniors live in KCDC housing, and I truly appreciate what this program does for our residents.

While delivering food is an important part of the program, volunteers provide much more than a healthy lunch – they provide companionship and a friendly face.

Mobile Meals is currently seeking individual volunteers and corporate participants who will allow employees to take long lunch hours no more than one day each week to deliver meals. The schedule for participation is flexible. Volunteers can deliver meals as often as one day per week or only one day per month, whatever suits their schedule.

If you’re looking for a way to serve the community, I encourage you to consider delivering Mobile Meals. And, if you’d like to practice before signing up, you can always deliver a chocolate cake to KCDC’s CEO.
