As businesses and individuals struggle in this tough economy, MEDIC Regional Blood Center is struggling to find blood donors.

As businesses and individuals struggle in this tough economy, MEDIC Regional Blood Center is struggling to find blood donors.
About 40 percent of MEDIC’s blood supply is collected on-site at company blood drives, which have been reduced due to local companies going out of business. And layoffs have reduced the number of donors.
We continue to hold company blood drives at KCDC. Our next drive is scheduled for March 30. MEDIC brings a mobile donation bus, and our staff has the convenience of donating while at work. I am proud of our employees who donate blood and am proud that KCDC offers them the opportunity to do so. I encourage other local businesses to consider holding blood drives. It’s a simple program that can save lives.
Even if your workplace does not participate in the mobile blood drive program, consider donating. MEDIC has locations downtown and in Farragut, or you can donate at mobile units during community drives. For a schedule of community drives is available at http://www.medicblood.org.
Now is a great time for first-time donors to make an impact and for long-time donors to keep up the good work. I know our great community will continue its tradition of volunteerism and giving and will support MEDIC to meet the demand for blood in our community.
KCDC’s mission is to improve and transform neighborhoods and communities by providing quality affordable housing, advancing development initiatives and fostering self-sufficiency. For more information, call 865-403-1100 or visit http://www.kcdc.org.
