An Inauguration to Remember
Published: 2/16/2009 12:00:00 AM
Today is Feb. 16, President’s Day. It’s hard to believe that it’s been nearly four weeks since our new president was inaugurated into office.
Juanita Cannon, a KCDC board member, was one of several Knoxville residents fortunate enough to attend President Obama’s inauguration in person. She joined a crowd estimated at more than a million people, people who joined together in the frigid cold to share in the historic moment when Barack Obama became the 44th president and the first African-American elected to the post.

Juanita says that it was a very special time, and one that she will never forget.
I venture to guess that most Americans – even those of us who huddled around television sets to catch the action – will remember the inauguration. It was indeed a special time in our nation’s history.
Now that President Obama is going about the business of running our country in these difficult times, I hope that we will all join together to wish him much success.
