The KCDC Community Involvement Committee is an employee-run volunteer committee that represents KCDC through activities that favorably impact KCDC housing residents and surrounding neighborhoods.

The committee is an active group. They, along with other KCDC employee volunteers, do a lot of positive things for our residents and the community.

Most recently, the committee assembled eight bountiful Thanksgiving baskets, one for each of our eight properties. They stocked the baskets with food items donated by KCDC employees.

The baskets, overflowing with all the ingredients for a wonderful Thanksgiving meal, were given to families in need. It was encouraging for all of us to know that we made the holidays a little bit brighter for some people going through tough times.

Throughout the year our committee has offered volunteer support to several community events, such as the Rossini Festival, the “500 Block of Gay Street” tour and fundraiser and the Mechanicsville Homecoming.

The committee even managed to convince their boss to put on his running shoes to join them for the Volunteer Ministry 5K Run and Fun Walk. Several of us participated and had a lot of fun doing it. In October, we were off to the races again, participating in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

Many thanks go to our committee for all that they do for our community.
